After a look at how, when, and where Big Ten teams are playing in tournaments that litter the calendar before conference play begins, here's a look at who, when and where Big Ten teams will play outside of conference play during their bye week, when the conference season begins the weekend of March 7.
A few things of note:
There are three common bye week opponents in the Big Ten.- Valparaiso has back-to-back weeks at Ohio State then Illinois.
- Gonzaga stays on the west coast to tangle with Washington in March then down the coast a month later to take on USC.
- Another Pacific Northwest team, Oregon State, finds itself filling out three Big Ten bye weekends, a rivalry weekend at Oregon is sandwiched by trips to Nebraska then Iowa, the latter in Des Moines.
As mentioned, Iowa will play in Des Moines, the second year Rick Heller has played a mid-May series in Des Moines.
Michigan State's four-game, three-opponent weekend comes from their usual spring home of Greenville, S.C.
With Oregon State currently in conference purgatory, there is not a bye week filled with an opponent from a power conference.
The Riverside, Calif., to Piscataway, N.J. trip for Cal Baptist to play Rutgers is certainly something.
All weekends are three-game sets unless otherwise noted.
